(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Earlier this week, Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) hosted the 2024 Kimchi Day reception in partnership with the California Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Legislative Caucus. The celebration recognized the unanimous passage of Senate Resolution (SR) 102, authored by Senator Min, and House Resolution (HR) 114 (Mike Fong), which formally proclaim November 22, 2024, as Kimchee Day in the State of California.
“In line with Korean American culture, kimchi is spicy, dynamic, and good for your heart and soul,” said Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine). “As the son of Korean immigrants, I am incredibly proud to host the 2024 Kimchi Day celebration at our State Capital and honor South Korea’s unique heritage. From Irvine, to the Bay Area, to LA’s historic Korea Town, California is not only home to the largest Korean American population in the United States, but the most vibrant Korean food and restaurant scene outside mainland Korea. Thank you to our incredible partners at the California AAPI Legislative Caucus, Sage Strategies, and Blue House Korean BBQ for joining us to celebrate the official designation of Kimchee Day in the Golden State.”
Hosted at the iconic Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park, the event featured special guests, including Assemblymember Mike Fong, Vice Chair of the AAPI Legislative Caucus, Assemblymember Phil Ting, and the Consul Hye Ran Cho of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco. The reception showcased a kimchi demonstration by Volcano Kimchi.
